So I'm getting pricing together to start the base of what I need for a lift kit.
At this point, I think I'm pretty set on an IRO 4.5" lift, topping out with 31-32" tires. Comparing a lot of the different styles, types and heights of lift kits, and what all is involved, both with labor and costs, that seems like the perfect middle ground, best bang for the buck area for me.
I have on the list dorman replacement upper control arms, trying to get all MOOG bushings for everything else, probably MOOG ball joints as well. I'm looking at getting a new tie rod, adjustable track bars and adjustable lower CAs. I'm not sure how to go about dealing with the cv driveshaft just yet, I'll deal with that one a little later on, I gotta dig deeper there.
Any specific brands you people recommend that isn't going to break the bank but will be fairly compatible across the board?
i've seen a few good choices around here but I can only find them at a decent price through amazon or the like. I'm probably going to go with one of those since the owners seem to like them, unless someone recommends otherwise.
Should I invest the extra money for a heavy duty steering dampener, considering the larger tires and lift? I still have a little more digging around to do on some of it so I'm welcome to opinions and recommendations on parts, if any of you that have done this already are willing to part with some of your experience and expertise
I'm seeing IRO 4.5" springs and Bilsten 5100 series shocks as the backbone on it. Probably going to get some bulked up brackets for parts like the track bars.
Not sure on the sway bars' brand just yet but for sure will be getting disco's.
This will be a short arm lift, since it seems up to 5-5.5" lifts can be done on short arms. I know I'm pushing it a bit into the high limit but I'm not going to be going overly crazy to be needing those long arms, at least not on this I6 motor.
As far as I can tell, that's pretty much it.. I keep getting the nagging feeling there's something missing though, is it just beginner's itch? Btw, I'll most likely end up going thru Kolak for most of these parts but it will end up being over several orders so I'm hoping to have all my ducks in order before hand. Plus I'm sure the suppliers would appreciate me not nagging them several times with different parts pricing requests hahaha
I have a bit of repairs to catch up on first so this is still only in initial planning and preparing stages thus far. I figure, since some of those repairs overlap into the suspension and such, I might as well get the right parts from the beginning. Money will be a bit more abundant by the time the repairs are done as well so the lift kit will hopefully be done or nearly done by end of this year.
