another 96 GC with electrical problems

96 Laredo, 148k miles, 4.0 v6

I've just about had it with this problem and now my GC is undrivable. It started with the gauge cluster, power windows, and overhead console working intermittently. I tried replacing the BCM with a used one off of eBay and that didn't work, but then I realized that by simply pushing the overhead console up against the ceiling I could get everything to work and stay working. This was actually very relieving after doing some research on here and elsewhere, I thought it was going to be much worse. So for a couple of days I left the replacement BCM in (it had higher miles) and I crammed a 36" crowbar between the overhead console and the cupholders until I could get around to a more permanent solution.

On the third day I started it up, and it ran for about 1-2 seconds and then the engine killed off. This is exactly how it behaves when the anti-theft device gets triggered. Usually all I have to do is hit unlock on my keyless entry and that fixes it (all of the locks have been broken except for the drivers door and tailgate). Not this time, it didn't work. So I reinstalled the original BCM, removed the crowbar and still couldn't get it to idle. Then I tried using the bypass trick with the anti-theft device and spliced the purple/yellow wire and grounded it. Still can't get it to idle.

Any idea or suggestions? This problem along with some other issues are making me think I might as well just take it to the junkyard and see what I can get for it.
