Hey guys, I have been having a humming sound from the front of my WJ for about a month now. It was only hapening when driving in 4x4 from 35-60 mph getting louder as I Accelerate, when I put it in 2WD it goes away. I was thinking it was the front diff or the front drive shaft (still not sure). anyways today I went to start the jeep after visiting my dad, all my guages went crazy for a sec and then everything went dead. I was like WTF I just bought a new battery about 3 weeks ago, so I jumped it and it would not stay on untill the third try but still wanted to shut off unless I gave it gas. than it stayed on enough to get home, so I drove it home parked it and shut it off. I then tried to start it again and nothing. so I guess its obvious the alternator is bad. Now talking with my buddy about the alternator, he says to me I bet the alternator going bad is whats been causing that humming sound you've been getting. So now my question to you all is this... Can it be the bad alternator thats been causing the humming sound?

I would look for loose or corroded connections at the battery, and at the power distribution box. You could always pull it and get it checked at autozone or something. It only takes about 5 min to pull.
