If you upgrade your alternator, you're going to want to upgrade your mains wiring and the fuse in that circuit. Hit me backchannel - I can help you with that (click the link in my sig.)

Mean Green, Powermaster, et al are pretty spendy, but I've heard good reports from the field on them. So, it's really a matter of "what do you want to do?" If you're already at 136A or higher (I need to dig up my alternator catalogue to look up what you have,) you probably can't manage a 'swap upgrade' without some serious work.

Just out of curiosity, where are you finding the Mean Green alternator for the 4.7HO? From what I've found on their website, they only offer alternators for the older 5.2 and 5.9 V8s. Will either of those work in the 4.7?

Ah, maybe here's my answer, if I'm reading it correctly...

It sounds like an upgrade from the 136A alternator to something like a Mean Green would be non-trivial at best. Anybody tried it? Any succeeded?

Pics/how-to guide/free gear are welcome and appreciated.

i called and asked them if they had any and the guy said every alternator is made upon request but they havent updated their online site so its not on their buy you can call them to order there wouldnt need to be any modification done to use the mean green its a direct bolt on.... so everyone who uses these succeeds

so to 5-90 i dont need any serious work or any work at all just the work it needs to be swapped out...
