Air Intake

I was looking over my ZJ today and just realized how small the air intake is right behind the grill. I mean my car has a bigger hole than the Jeep does. Has anybody just cut the plastic to open it up some more? Would it actually make any improvements or would it be a waste of time?

im not possitive how to modify the stock air intake, but i too think the first part of the tube that pulls air from the grill is way too small.

I ripped mine out and you can see straight through the grill to my cone filter, not sure how much it improved it but the filter is definitly getting more air now

I am sure the engineers have not overlooked this. By opening it up, you most likely will not be able to force any more air in.
