After market steering wheel, shops refuse to install it

Because of liability ****! They are affraid if the airbag doesnt deploy, Ill sue them for not installing my wheel right.

I have no clue what to do :crying:

Why not just install it yourself. The pullers are not that much, you could probually even rent one.

Give it a shot ... if it makes you feel any better I'm 17 and do everything in my garage with next to zero knowledge of cars lol .. just take your time and be methodical about everything you do and its nearly impossible to screw up.

There's a nice walk through.

EDIT: Nvm wrong link ... Well there's only I believe 4 screws on the back of the steering wheel anyhow. Just make sure to follow the precautionary steps they talk about in the link I posted, disabling the airbags is important so it doesn't explode in your face lol.

Pic of said after market steering wheel.

ef1992 07-21-2009 08:46 PM

Dont got one. I simply called Kolak and told him what I needed. But its a Mopar leather wrapped wheel. Black in color

Why not ask them to write up a waiver so they're not held responsible?

Falkon 07-21-2009 10:59 PM

Not sure if I'm following this correctly, but installing an aftermarket steering wheel was discussed on an automotive forum I'm on.

The advice given there was that it's illegal to remove, or alter an airbag equipped vehicle's SRS. Sounds like a big liability isue.

Since when is replacing a factory steering wheel with a factory steering wheel aftermarket? Tell the shop what you got, then find a backyard mechanic or another shop.

Is it just me or does it seem the airbags in our WJ's rarely even go off anyways? lol .. I've seen some pretty mangled WJ's and drivers reporting no airbag deployment .. so who the hell really cares anyways?

I'm interested though, What wheel did you get?
