99 jeep GRAND CHEROKEE! CRACKING NOISE BEHIND DASH

A brief history on my 1999 jeep grand cherokee limited. i purchased my vehicle with 86,000 miles on it. The day i brought the car i drove the vegas were on the drive there the a/c went out. Come to find out the wires melted together. i paid 300 to get it fixed a few days ago its been almost 2 years ac free lol. a few months after ac went out the heater core started leaking . i had the bypassed for 20 dollars. i have been hearing a sound from behind the dash like A CRUNCHING NOISE . OR MORE OF A GRINDING CRUNCH THEN IT STOPS. WHAT COULD IT BE ?

You know, when the bottom part of your door isn't painted the same color as the upper part.

Or are both the upper and lower part of your door painted the same color?
