99 Grand Cherokee 4.7

Hi guys this is my first post on here because for the most part my truck has been very reliable and never caused me any problems. Until now, it died all of sudden while driving to work one day and would not restart. It has been backfiring through the intake and fouling the plugs I have replaced the crank position sensor and cam position sensor. As well as pulling the valve covers to make sure it has not jumped time. I have also checked compression and it is 140 to 150 across the board. This is confusing me as to what could be wrong I would love to check fuel pressure but there is no schrader valve on the fuel rail and no one seems to sell the required adapter. Does anyone know where I can buy this adapter or the manufacturer or part number the only other thing I can think may be wrong is the fuel pressure is too high and would like to eliminate that thought. Has anyone else had this problem I work on buses for a living and have a scanner and the truck is throwing no codes. I have never had this much trouble with cars in my life. Any help is appreciated sorry for the long post.

Unless the 99 is different than 00 and later 4.7s, there is a Schrader valve on the passenger side portion of the fuel rail between cylinders #4 and #6. Try looking again.

Not all scanners are created equal. Just to be sure that there are no codes, use this DIY method: (1) with the engine off, turn the key On - Off - On - Off - On fairly quickly, (2) after that, any codes present will show up on the odometer display, one after the other. If there aren't any codes or after they have all been displayed, the word "donE" will appear.

Post your results.

You replaced the CMP and CKP after it failed to start, or after the backfiring but before it failed to start?

I replaced the cam position sensor and crank position sensor when the truck died it was already backfiring like the timing was out. I have tried to get the truck running and the only code that comes up reads injector ground fault cylinder 9 I am beginning to think the pcm has died as there is spark but it seems erratic. I bought the adapter and checked fuel pressure it was within spec. I wonder if pcm failure is common on these trucks or not I have checked every sensor on the motor and they all seem to be fine and when I check the live data feed on the scanner the readings seem to be spot on. The truck did do something funny the other day when turning the motor over the fuse blew for the auto shutdown relay. But I guess this is another thing to figure out.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Injector #9? What was the actual trouble code number (what were the Xs in P0XXX)? PCM failure is not a common problem, but occasionally someone does report one. The fuse blowing does make it seem like something is shorted out somewhere. Good luck trying to find that.
