98 XJ Dana 30 in a 94 ZJ?

I've read that the XJ Dana 30s were reverse cut / reverse rotation while the ZJ were not. But when I look at replacement ring gear/pinion sets, they show as compatible which I can't imagine would be the case if they were different rotation.

Am I able to swap an XJ Dana 30 in to my ZJ while I rebuild the old 30? I might have to swap over the driveshaft as I think my old one is the long pinion version.

The HP D30 axles were reverse cut gears. Yes, you will be able to put the XJ axle in while your other one is being worked on, it will be a direct swap.

PS: Thank you for sending the extra police and the military, much appreciated.

Thanks, Whiteout.

Not sure what you mean by the police, though.

Also keep in mind the HP D30 gears are roughly 30% stronger than maching ratio gearset on a LP D30 - when going forward that is.

I'm in Calgary. EPS sent about 300 officers and vehicles, the military sent 1200+ and tons of equipment.

Apparently we didn't send enough, I got pulled over and ticketed for not having my 13 registration sticker on my plate today.

LP is about that same 30% steonger in reverse compared to the HP in reverse. In other words, HP front axle R&P is most likely destroyed when doing silly stuff in reverse..

on a typical LP front axle, you are actually on the "coast" side of the gears under power which is the weaker side. HP you are on the drive side, so in forward you are on the proper side of the gears.

I'm OP and I approve the original responses. They answered my question, and apparently the XJ axle is stronger than my ZJ original. Might stick with it.
