98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Loredo 4WD

I have a whining noise while driving in 4WD. I have 2 questions. Is this usually expensive and if so what is the common problem? This Jeep has only 112,000 miles.

Does whine all time?
At acceleration?
During deceleration?

I had my zj for over a year before getting rid if the mud terrains. Now I hear a whine at accell and cruising. I am sure there is nothing mechanically wrong.

I moved thid thread to the Grand Cherokee forum section where your fellow ZJ drivers can best assist.
Maybe you'll get lucky and it's just a worn u-joint in the front drive shaft.

4 wheel high, or 4 -lo?

4-lo will always whine....but I am assuming your are talking about 4 hi.

Does it seem to come from the rear of the vehicle?
All the time? Or just while under a load?
