98 Grand Cherokee: Leaks and locks

Hey everybody,

I bought a 98 Grand Cherokee Laredo in very good condition with about 70k mi about 3 yrs ago and it hasn't given me any serious problems until now.

1) It came with an alarm system w/ keyless entry and over time both passanger doorlocks have stopped working when I use the alarm fob. Manaully engaging the lock works properly and, when i press the lock button on the fob, it sounds like the solenoids (i'm assuming not mechanichal linkage) are firing properly. Has anyone else had this problem?

2) The right passegner floorboard towards the right front corner is soaked sometimes after rain. Is there a seal in this area that could be broken, or is there another element (a/c etc...) that could be leaking into this area?

Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions

The two may be related somehow, not sure I understand all of the detail on the lock situation.

Generally the leak is in the windshield and without risking a messy urethane patch job, replacing the windshield is the best option.

Garden hose and flash light could isolate that one for you and maybe a friend who works for beer...

I get a leak also in rain. I find that if I park with the front end of the Jeep at least slightly elevated, the water entry will be much less.

It may be the window, but I am not sure. I have heard that the screws for the roof rack (or the sun roof if you have one) can leak also. If the drains from the roof are plugged, then water can build up and spill onto the headliner. It then can drain off of the headliner onto the floor.

Thus, I am not sure whether a window replacement will fix it or not.
