97 zj 5.2 won't start (Fuel issue I think)

Hi my name is Billy & this is my first post on this forum, I always use this forum for fixes and things about my 97 zj 5.2 quadratrac jeep and it has helped me a lot, now i call on you guys!
160k miles & 5.2 v8
Okay this has been an issue for the past few months but the past few days it has been frequent.
Last night I parked my jeep down at the bottom of my driveway so its on a flat surface to see if it still had the issue but it still did it. I'll go to start the jeep (COLD) and it'll fire up run bogging down to 100-1000 rpms so I shut it off after 3 seconds and try to start it and it wont start, it'll crank but no start. I tried cycling the ignition thinking it could be a bad check valve on the fuel pump but after 5-6 cycles it started and hovered around 100 rpms and sounded like it was running on 2 cylinders! So I shut it back off because it was about to stall anyway. I took the gas cap off and didn't hear anything out of the filler while my dad turned the key on. But you can hear the pump a little in the rear of the car if your sitting in the front seats, it runs for about 1.5 seconds then turns off.(as the key is in the On position). I popped the hood, put my ear by the relay, and it does click on (like a burst of 3 clicks or so) then quiets down, then when the key turns off it clicks off.

When I get the jeep running it runs smooth(aside from my tensioner pulley being a little noisy) and it shuts off and then starts fine..

I recently replaced the distributor cap, rotor, & wires, sparkplugs. That fixed it starting slow..now i have this issue. Please helP! sorry for the long post tried to describe everything. Thanks in advanced !

Also when its cold if i back up the driveway fairly quick on the pedal and let off completely itll stall. This happened a month ago though and i havent tried it lately.

I would find a fuel pressure gauge, older a/c gauges work as well. See where your at. Usually when my pumps go it won't start, but it sounds fuel related. The stalling after a burp of throttle stopped on mine after sea foaming it, but I think the front 02 is the real fix for mine.

Forget the long posts. The more info the better.
Welcome,
besides checking the fuel pressure with a gauge, clean the IAC out. This will effect the idle, if it's gunked up. Fuel pressure should be up around 49 psi.

Also check that the throttle cables and the throttle plate is not sticking. spray some carb cleaner in it. When ever you do any work on the engine that would effect the way it runs (tune up, IAC, sensors etc.) disconnect the battery so the computer can learn of the replaced or cleaned up parts that are in there.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, my front o2 sensor isnt hooked up thats why i have an engine light, I tried getting it out by cutting the wire and slipping a box end wrench over it vices everything still cant get it out, gonna try today again ..Could that be the whole cause? A o2 sensor not hooked up?

The 02's are not in the system on a cold start.

Heat the exhaust up before trying to remove the sensor (run the engine)

You have to have the front o2, back one you don't, but front tells the computer what to do. I don't think it's needed to start, but is needed to run correct. Can you splice the wires to make it run long enough to heat the pipe, if not heat the bung with a torch trying to not heat the sensor. Hook 2 wrenches together for more leverage, it should come.

Well i think its to the point where no wrench fits on it thats how rounded it is, i tried vices but i havent tried doing it after a really hot exhaust. The jeep runs fine after its started, so i can keep it running to get the exhaust hot, how long do i need it to run? Trying not to use up all my gas (lol) 5-10 minutes?

Update: I cleaned the IAC it had gunk on the tip of it, I started the jeep it stalled right on start up, i tried again and it cranked like 2-3 seconds and started up fine & ran fine. But this is not cold. Ill have to try in a few hours when my jeep is cold again . Do you think the IAC can cause it to have my Original post issues with not starting without giving it gas?

Possible on the iac. On the o2 I would get a big pipe wrench, fire it up and keep trying till it goes

all the starts after coming out of stores were fast and smooth, but i forgot if it always did that, tomorrow morning will be the test whether or not the IAC fixed it.

However, when i got home i right away tried using a monkey wrench(pipe wrench) to loosen the damn o2 sensor, I got a grip and used all my might and when it finally gave i thought it went, but no, it rounded it off even more -.-..

This dang o2 sensor will not come out, any other ideas?

I need to get a pipe from the store than haha, nothing laying around here. need to buy a wide enough one to fit over the handle.

If that doesnt work, which i dont have much faith in, will one of those blue or yellow torches work? in other words, will they get the pipe hotter than it is after a 30 minute drive? and i heat around the o2 sensor, Not the sensor right?

Thanks

A propane torch should get it hot enough
