97 JGC Laredo Stalling Problem

My wife and I purchased our used 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo in 2001 and it has hardly given us any problems...until now.

Recently, the Jeep began to stall on my wife. She would be driving and would slow down to turn or stop at a light and it would stall. The Jeep has always taken 2-3 cranks to start so my thought was it's the fuel pump. Our local mechanic tested the pressure and decided that was the problem so he replaced the fuel pump. Well, it ran great for a few days, but then the stalling problem returned. The other day she was leaving work and it stalled on her while in rush hour traffic...she was NOT happy! She coasted into a parking lot and I went to help her. I started the Jeep and took off down the road and sure enough it stalled on me while I was slowing down at a traffic light...VERY frustrating! It did this twice. I was somehow able to get it home and we haven't driven it since.

I've heard others complaining of a campshaft position sensor as being the culprit. I've also heard of people replacing this and other parts and are still having trouble.

I just don't want this to become a money pit!

The JGC is a '97 4x4, automatic w/ the 4.0 engine and 126,000 miles.

Please advise. Thanks!!!!

Check the battery terminals and clean / tighten.
Is it the original battery, may be it is time to replace.
