97 Gr Cherokee sunroof leaking and not venting

So I've read a few threads about these sunroofs leaking. The only post i found with detailed instructions on replacement, said the sunroof had to be vented in order to access the bolts and remove the glass.
My sunroof will not vent, it will go back under the roof 8 out of 10 times. This is a factory roof. it's the limited (if that matters).
The weather strip that is attached to the glass Has separated where it meets- towards the back of the roof- in the middle previously. It's
Seperated about an inch which allows water into the headliner n slowly drips when it rains. I kno it's going to get moldy so I really want to put a new strip on, then change the headliner.
I was considering tearing the strip as I open n close the roof- n just hope it vents!! Does anyone think that's a dumb idea?

Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated!
