So my '96 ZJ 6 cylinder doesnt like to start up every now and then. I have replaced the starter and the ignition switch. I haven't tried putting it in neutral yet when it doesn't want to start. Does anyone know what the problem may be?

I don't understand your question. So does it just not start when you turn the key the first time but then you turn it again and it starts? Or does it not start for a couple hours? Does it pop and fart and try to start or does it turn over and over like it's not firing?

ya, a little more clarity would be helpful. Once you do manage to get it running, do you have any symptoms of it running poorly? or is it just on the startup?

No it runs good once it is started up. ill start the jeep...it runs fine...ill drive to the store (for example), come back out of the store, turn the key, the battery comes on and everything, but when i crank it all the way over it does nothing. doesnt even make a sound. so im just guessing that one of the cables or wires are messed up or loose. i had put on a new ground cable and that didnt seem to work. i also bought a new clamp for the negative terminal but it didnt help. battery is in very good shape. im just out of solutions.

Sounds like your shift linkage is out of adjustment or bad neutral safety switch.
