heres some pics.
i cut the hole in the tunnel for the shifter based upon what others had done. and the hole is way too large. so i will be "patching" that hole with some sheet metal i have laying around

not bad placement and feels good

but i have to clearance my dumb center console so i can get 1st, 3rd, and 5th gear(thats neutral in the picture)

crossmember bolted up to frame it fit damn near perfectly

overall i feel like i beasted today. have to get the rear ds lengthened tomorrow and pick up new starter bolts and finish odds and ends and she'll be good to go. holy **** i cant wait to drive this thing again

just curious, why dont you just use the 231 from the XJ also, plenty of aftermarket support for em, more support that the 242 leaves behind.

Violence-it may not be the anwser, but it sure cuts down on the questions.

You might want to add this link up top, I believe it's woody's like you posted but you can still see the pics.(for now at least)
http://www.jeeps-offroad.com/showthread.php?t=23749

It's great that you are doing this, I really want to do the swap on my ZJ but lack the funds and just moved into an apartment which makes it hard to do it right now.

Edit: Don't know if it will help anything but just found this from MC. http://www.mallcrawlin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22649

Did you have a lot of trouble aligning the clutch?

the 231 in the xj was toast(or so i was told) and i enjoy having the full time 4wd setting as its extremely convenient. nickell80-thanks for the links i'll add that top one. i found the lower one and pm'd the guy with no response yet. i'm guessing his issue was he had yearly vehicle inspections(which we dont have here in ks). 2doorxj- ha yeah i will love it, and as you said in fine print i will hate it in bumper to bumper traffic lol. napsterzj- it took me three tries to align the clutch. but the first try was using the clutch alignment tool which at the time i didnt realize didnt center correctly. i ended up aliqning it by eye. the biggest pain was maneuvering the tranny/tcase into place. i tried multiple times, ended up pulling it back out removing tcase from tranny and rotating tranny horizontally 180* on tranny jack and it went in pretty much first try with it set up that way. i then bolted up the bellhousing and crankshaft pos sensor and then bolted the tcase up.

I found a zj that has a blown tranny for 650 and an xj for 500 with an ax15. Did you rebuild the tranny before you swapped it in? And what about you check engine light, is it on?

tranny had recently been rebuilt. i mainly checked how it shifted/checked the synchros to make sure they were good. check engine light doesnt matter here in ks as we dont have yearly emissions checks.

well i may be tearing the tranny back out this summer... say i'm driving in 4th gear at approx 30mph at 2k rpm and i floor it. engine revs up to 3kish for a few seconds then drops back down and gains speed from there. not sure what the issue is. any input?
