'96 ZJ -No Front Drive Shaft - Safe?

Howdy y'all.
Got a quick question.
Is it safe to drive a -96 ZJ with a NP 249J Transfercase (5.2L Engine) without the front driveshaft in the Jeep?

My Dad's front driveshaft decided to part with the vehicle the other day and he needs to get it home. I know that some Grand Cherokees have specific "rules" about this. Is he safe to drive it around with out the front in until he can fix it?

early models will roll even in park...
with the driveshaft missing the transfer case will think that you have lost traction, thus work the transfer case even harder...
try car-parts.com for a salvage yard near you

I drove home returning from the Outer-Banks, NC without the rear drive shaft. So for two days, I had a front wheel drive Cherokee

Your dad will be fine.

You will not ruin the VC trying to make it home unless he has to drive across the country
