96 zj charging problem maybe?

My Jeep has started acting up it randomly dies the charging gauge will stay just above 9 and then go to none can still run and drive until rest of gauges and everything electrical shuts off still runs then eventually dies please help

Sounds like the alternator is bad. Mine started doing the same thing when it died. You're battery isn't holding a charge due to the failing alternator and is running on fumes. Replace the alternator before you're battery life suffers from dying too much.

You can get a free charging system test at most auto parts stores.

Now im getting a clicking noise out of my fuse box it is coming from onr of the iso fuses I think its called (little black box fuse) it happens when there is no key even in the ignition?? I can fabricate anything but when it comes to electrical im stumped thank you for the help

Sounds like a dead battery.

But even with the keys not in the ignition? That's strange. Maybe something is drawing power that shouldn't be? Start pulling out the fuses and relays until you pinpoint which one is making the noise.

I found wich one was making the noise but have no idea what it controls. Couldnt find it in the diagram in Haynes manual. took battery to get tested and its good so is alternator. No more clicking noise now that battery is charged and gauge shows solid 13 now but before it did also then would drop to zero while driving at highway speeds. Would stop and restart gauge would start at ten then drop to nothing.

the clicking noise could have been the alarm, if you have one. i know when i unhook my battery and hook it back up my alarm goes off and lights start flashing till i unlock the does. not 100% sure just throwing it out there
