95 ZJ rear hatch wont open

Well not sure how to fix my rear hatch of my jeep it will unlock but the handle feels like its not grabbing. Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure some of the engaging parts are plastic in there. Might have broke something.

Also if you wheel it much sometimes they shift a lil and stick.

Tap on the jeep around the lock while pulling the handle.

mine the handle wont even lift after I unlock it unless the whole handle assembly is in the exact right place. Not to mention the hydraulics are shot so I get hit in the head...on the list to replace lol
