95 Grand Cherokee - Strong Gas Smell!!
My wife's ZJ has started giving off a strong gas smell in the interior (no jokes!). It's worse if she just gets off of the highway, but it doesn't seem to be noticeable outside. Is there a common problem I should be looking for? I heard there's a recall for this but looked it up and there is no TSB. Scary stuff as my wife and our two year are in this vehicle...trying to not to drive it unless needed. Thanks.

I would look at the fuel lines in the engine bay. It could be sucking the fumes in to the vehicle thru the heater. Gas cap on tight !!! The rear hatch ,is the seal in good shape. Mine had a small gap in the bottom the hatch,it would fill with dust as a drove down dirt roads. fixed it with good ole duck tape......

I'd say check out the charcoal canister and hoses behind the front bumper on the drivers side.

Also check that the injectors are not weeping. Obviously the leak is under the hood. The HVAC pulls fresh intake the air from under the windshield wipers.

So, if my gas smell is coming from the area of the canister, what needs to be fixed on the Canister?

either there is a hole in it or one of the hoses is off or torn.
