95 Front Drive shaft missing connecting bolts.

I just bought myself a 95 Grand Cherokee but the guy removed the front drive shaft and put in the trunk. I was going to go ahead and install it today but I dont seem to have any of the bolts so does anyone know what size they are? I need the ones that connect to the front diff. and then the one to the t-case.

You may have bigger problems on your hands as well. I'd be willing to bet the ZJ has the 249 t-case and the previous owner took out the front driveshaft because the viscous coupler is shot.

You are correct and I know all about the 249 and its not even the T-case that I want so it will be swapped out. But the guy said he took it out to get better gas mileage. and I honestly dont even know how this guy took it off since he didn't even know what I meant by, "do you have the front drive shaft?" so I had to explain what it was.

I just mainly at this moment want to install the drive shaft to try and keep it from rolling back into the street. Or would it be better for me to just wait and always have a rock under the tire until i do the swap? I have two other cars that I drive so the ZJ wont be driven that much cept when I move and then its only towing a Neon like 10 miles and thats it and then the ZJ will be parked again probably until I do the swap.

Doesn't the parking brake work? If the VC is truly fried, driving it is not recommended as it will wear out front end components very quickly.

By removing the front shaft to "get better gas mileage", he likely fried the viscous coupling anyway. Yet another "bonus" to the 93-95 249

haha Yeah I know. Could I still drive it with just the rear drive shaft in until i swap out t-cases or do i risk locking the t-case up? and Jr, the XJ fell through and i was just looking on craiglist and randomly found this ZJ that I actually liked. so I got it.

You can drive it with the front driveshaft out, odds are it's already caused damage to the VC. Only problem is it will roll in park as mentioned. Put the parking brake on every time you park and you're golden.

In the meantime, start looking for a 231 or 242. The Pick-n-Pull right by you has tons of XJ's with 231's in them. They go for $115 dollars from them.

Btw, if you come across a stripped white ZJ with the engine still in it, look in the passenger side for me. I left my BFH in there

so can you drive a 96-98 249 without the driveshaft and not hurt the VC?

better mileage LOL...
call the dealer for the bolt sizes ,,, then go to home depot, lowes, or any hardware store.
parts store may even be able to look up the size, or even have them.

that is not correct you will fry the VC in any 249 transfer case, the only thing different is that the vehicle will not roll when in park in the later year ZJs.

Not knowing for sure, I would think the tc would be detecting front wheel slippage , thus be engaged in 4 wheel drive... all the time

just throwing that out for consideration
