95' with 200K worth buying

Need advice. I'm coming from a TJ. I'm looking at a Grand Cherokee with a 6 cylinder and mild no name lift for $2,000. The rear end makes an odd noise, the ball joints have all been replaced, roof rack, saggy head liner, mild body damage. Sound good?

I paid $850 for my 95, all stock with 237K on it..few minor issues-roof liner, vic is dead..etc. but runs and drives good, no rust or body damage. if the one you're looking at has rear end noise ..might be serious, I would think anything over $1000 is too much. .. just my Good luck however it turns out though

Maybe it just needs fluids in the axle, mine made a wierd noise when i bought mine. The axle was bone dry of fluid and how I made it back from PA Ill never know without locking up my rearend. But it Isnt bad now since I put fluid in it. Check that and see if that helps. If thats not it then a rearend aint hard to find for a ZJ.

I've got a 95 stock with no body damage, and no funny noises. Insurance currently appraises it at 1k, that guy is trying to rip you off. You can get a zj with no funny business about the axle for far less then that, for body damage and funny noises from the axle 2k is too much. Just my , but then again mine was bought 11 years ago for 10k from PO.

I bought my 95 with 175k on it just over two years ago for $1900, he wanted $2500. PO said it needed a cat, which it did cause it was rattling. That is a bit cheaper than an unknown in the rear end. I would definitely talk him down to no more than about $1200. Just FYI, I was just quoted about $700 for a rear diff rebuild at a local shop in TX.

I just got mine with 212k miles and body damage for $900.00. Runs and drives great with cold a/c, too. Sad thing is, that the person your potentially buying from will probably get $2k from someone. It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I wouldnt pay that much though.

I got my first Jeep about 2 months ago for just under 2000.00 it had 192,000 miles on it and yesterday I rolled over 200,000 it came with a Mile Marker PEC-8 winch, custom frame front brush guard and has about 80K on the engine in it currently. I dont know if I got the best deal but with the way mine performs on a daily basis I am happy. I think that price you are looking at may be a bit much with the issues it has.

Seems very pricey. If everything was working perfect, it still would be a little pricey. Remember, this is a 16 going on 17 year old vehicle. And gas prices are going through the roof. It's going to be a buyers market for Jeeps and any other vehicle that gets crappy gas milage. You should be able to find a much better one for allot less. Hell, I got mine with 260,000 miles. Everything works great. Just some interior issues, nothing big. I got it for $465.

Damn, I paid $600 for my 95 that they wanted $1,000 for. Guy said it needed a new TCM. It does shift a little high and I wouldn't mind replacing the TCM, but I can't find one ANYWHERE... Oh well, perfect excuse to do my ax-15 swap!

i don't know where you guys are finding these rigs, but i recently bought a '96 5.2 laredo w/225k for $1400.

Interior is super clean and nice (cloth), body is fairly straight (some minor hail), and ran good - for about 2 weeks, then the engine went. $850 later, I have a used 5.2 w/130k.

I had searched CL multi-times daily for months, and this was the best rig I could find. They are just getting harder and harder to get. Cash 4 clunkers depleted a lot of nice ZJs and I've noticed prices higher this year, than last.

OP, the rig sounds a bit on the high end. I would say $1100 is a fair deal. Don't worry too much about the rear end if that's what it is.. Not sure how much a used one is there, but here in CO, a JY rear end complete is $100.
