i have the same year and engine as u, with the same problem, someone told me a while back that the crankshaft position sensor was the likely cause. try replacing it or cleaning the contacts. any other suggestions?

You might also want to check your battery. I had something similar happen with another car and it turned out the battery had a bad cell. Most shops can bench test the battery to see if that's the problem.

They had a lot of problems with crankshaft position sensors...that would be your best bet.

I have had two ZJ's over the past 8 years and had to replace the fuel pumps on both one @ 120k and the other @ 140k bothwere 94' models. this fuel pumps are expensive i paid $400 for both of them and that was the cheap aftermarket replacement. Good luck with this problem. The second time this happened to me i learned from the first incident that if you kick the bottom of the tank from the rear of the vehicle you can sometimes get the fuel pump to kick in long enough to get you of the road or back home. good luck.
