93 ZJ fuel gauge not working

My 93 ZJ that I just bought has an issue with the fuel gauge. I put $25 in gas in it and it still reads E and the gas light is on. Anyone kno what might cause this problem

Faulty fuel level sender or problem with the wiring between the sender and the gauge. The fact that the low fuel light is on makes me think that it's *not* a problem with the gauge itself.

Worst case scenario, you have to replace the fuel pump. The fuel level sender is an integral part of the pump assembly on the 93, and can't be replaced separately.

Get yourself the FSM for the full diagnostic procedures.
