93 ZJ Door Harness Problems
Hi All,
The wire harness in the drivers door of my ZJ is kaput and needs to be rebuilt or replaced, 1) any tips on removing this thing? I have the panel off and its disconnected in the cabin but it has a clip ring around the connector in the door and wont release how does this come out?2) are these still available from jeep or is it a junkyard find kinda deal? 3) can they be rebuilt? having it half apart I'm not sure if the rubber boot that goes inbetween the door and body can come off.... 4) has anyone else had to tackle this ![]() Sorry for the long post but with no A/C and no working windows my jeep is an oven!

The rupper thing pulls out form the body side. In the door jamb there is a connector. Pull the rubber back and remove the screw from the door. The screw is a torx head. On the body side, there were 2 connectors about 6 inces from the door that are disconnected. Pull all the wires out of the body from the gap between the door and frame. Once you have it out, you should be able to figure out which wire is broken. Once you figure it out you can fix it. What I did to fix it was remove the wire from both fitings, and replace it with another one. I found another harnes at the junkyard, so i used the wire from it to fix mine.
If i rember right, to replace the wire on the door side, you remove the center piece on the face than lift up tabs in the opening to release the wire. On the body side, I just had to lift up the tab. It took me 1-2 hours to fix mine after finding a replacement at the junkyard. I was not able to do a direct swap, because the wire pattern in the donnor was differnt than in mine. If you want me to I can put up pictures, since i have most of the spare laying around somewhere.

You don't want to buy new from the dealer. I checked into it and it's stupid expensive. A junkyard may have what you are looking for, but you'll have to go check.
I found the bad wire in my door harness and just reconnected, soldered and shrinkwrapped it. No problems since. It will take you some time, but you can do it yourself. Just go slow and take pictures as you go.

First let me thank both you guys who responded! After finally getting the harness out, I found I had four broken wires and two others about to go. Went to Radio shack and got a soldering iron, heat shrink and a spool of 16 ga. wire, and about an hour and a half later I had four working windows again! Thanks again for the help!! $15 and a little time beats $360 and a weeks wait any day!

The no windows working thread should be a staple on the top of the page. It has been a life saver for a lot of us!! Myself included. Having windows again was like having a new car
