92 Dodge 5.2 and interchangeability?

I have a 1992 Dodge Ramcharger thats ive been trying to sell but thiss weekend im picking up a 96 v8 Orivis with 180k on it, or a 95 limited v8 i was wonderin if i could just pull the Rams drivetrain to keep for parts and rebuild the motor it to swap in when the stock one dies? or is it too much of a pain to make it work?

Dodge and Jeep 5.2 are the same. Trans case is diff due to starter location.

The motor should be functionally identical, however the transmission will not fit due to the reversed starter location. Transfer case may swap over as well if you need it, depending on output shaft length and model.

The transfer case (if stock) is probably going to be a NP208 with a pass side drop..these are full time 4x4 boxes

Anything wrong with the RamCharger...if you are looking to sell it even without the drive line you can post it over on RamChargerCentral

Didn't the Ramcharger have the LA motor?

If so, not gonna swap easily into a ZJ.

Considering the only difference in power between the Jeep and Dodge is 5HP and 5lb-ft (~2% difference), I doubt it's the cam. The difference can likely be attributed to the different exhaust manifold designs. I've never seen documentation proving the Jeep cams have different part numbers. I'm going to see if I can track down the Dodge part numbers for the cams and see if they match.

OK, here's what I've discovered so far:

1993 - 1994 Jeep 5.2L Cam Part# 5300-6707
1995 - 1998 Jeep 5.2L Cam Part# 5302-0283

1992 - 1993 Dodge Ram 5.2L Cam Part# 5300-6707
1994 - 2001 Dodge Ram 5.2L Cam Part# 5302-0283

1998 Jeep 5.9L Cam Part # 5302-1101

1993 - 1997 Dodge Ram 5.9L Cam part# 5300-6708
1998 - 2002 Dodge Ram 5.9L Cam part# 5302-1101

Unfortunately, I can't find specs for those cams to show a distinction between the two varieties of cams for each engine, but with the exception of 1994 it seems the Jeeps had the identical cam as the same model-year Dodge. That also helps dispel the myth that the 5.9 Jeep had a hotter cam than the equivalent '98 Ram.
