No sir, that won't work. What you want is a 95 up Exlorer or Mountaineer 2 or 4wd. They have disc brakes, 31 splines and are only slightly narrower than the ZJ axles. You can find them in 3.73, 3.55, and 4.10 gears with or withought a limited slip. They also have the right bolt pattern. While your at the junk yard get a driveshaft flange from a ranger so the ZJ shaft will work. The ZJ has a 1310 U-joint and the ford is a 1330, or get a U-joint that has both. Then a quality welder so nothing falls off when your done.

There are lots of 8.8s out there, Mustang, F150, Ranger, Crown Vic, but the only one the correct width is the Explorer/Mountaineer variety. It ends up about 5/8" per side narrower than the ZJ axle.

The mustang 8.8 is basically the same level as the D35, I believe its 27 spline, and wouldnt be nearly worth the work of putting it in.

What are the specs on the mustang 8.8? WMS to WMS, spline count, and bolt pattern are the three big factors.

UT, I'm pretty sure the 8.8's are either 31 or 28 spline, but either way the shafts and housing are stronger than a D35. (Remember to weld the tubes to the diff on the 8.8's to prevent them from spinning). Obviously the 31 spline is stronger and more of an upgrade than the 28 spline version.

Yeah its 28 spline, I just couldnt remember exactly off the top of my head. The mustang 8.8 is 28 spline vs the explorer 31.
