Looking to pickup a 9er. What should I be looking for as far as problems. I know my way around the 4.0s, but not the 5.9....
What issues should I look for? Water pumps seem to be common and most have 180-250k miles. Are the 5.9s as reliable as the 4.0?

5.9s are pretty reliable from what I've heard. Just look or worn out parts and normal maintenance items like you would any other car and you should be set. Best of luck

Check the plenum gasket for oil leaks, very common in the 8 cylinders. Do some figure eights to check for a bad viscous coupler. Watch the temperature gauge when you go for a test drive, I hear they like to overheat from neglected basic maintenance.

Tell them $1500
How is the rust underneath? Don't be surprised to see 16 bad control arm bushings.

No rust. Not much here in the south.just high miles and normal defects for a 15 year old jeep. VIC and axles. Found one with 133k for 4k but the front axle is shot. Something about a seal is blown.

Where you at? I talked to a guy tonight just to say he had a nice lifted niner. Then he is like well I do have a stock one for sell for $1800. 235k. There 2 with 100 miles of Atlanta for under 2 grand and 20+ under 5k. Most of them are ghetto boys or soccer moms.

central nebraska ... seems like all jeeps are overpriced here, but they have good reason to be: they are about the best winter vehicle, and the winters here can be bad.

The plenum gasket is under the intake on the V8s. If they start to leak or crack, you'll start burning oil and see white/ bluish smoke each time you accelerate.

I might have one for sale in a month for much less than that. I'm about 4 hours away from you.

I'm in SW suburb of Chicago and have original 5.9 with only 56K and best condition you'll find in Platinum. Runs perfect mechanically. Paint needs touch-ups and driver seat small tear along seam due to sun. Have other cars so only use each sparingly. Buying another new GC when I sell this one. Looking for $7000. Dealer offered $5500 already after checking it out. Waiting to find new Silver Overland w Saddle interior which they can't locate locally.
