5.9 LTD vs. Toyota Supra

I'm sorry if it's already been posted here before (it seems everything has).

But I'm sure not everyone here has seen this video so I HAD to post the link.

It breaks my heart to think of a ZJ owner not getting to see this race.

Wow the GC spanked the Supra pretty good...he did have a much better start off the line though.

True, but just think about the Supra driver. He bought that car because it can go fast, and it lost to a vehicle that was mainly designed to go off-road.

That's like buying a Jeep and getting beat off-road by a CR-V.

That's gotta hurt!!

it also comes down to driver skill.a quick car is only part of the equation.the guy in the jeep has a quick reaction time .second you are talking about a supra that is most likely not even turbo with a straight six that is over 15 years old.

It wasnt turbo, i've seen this vid before, not on here though.... that supra is 17 years old vs. a 7 year old jeep that has a bigger engine/displacement. That car stock has 200hp to the crank... Those cars are slugs off the line, i know i used to own an 87 turbo 5 speed. It wasnt bad, but those cars run 14's stock, that jeep ran a 12.3... Its modded versus the supra that wasn't modded. that and the jeep is 4WD vs. the non-lsd supra.... That and the driver of the supra sucks, he got a completely -=-=-=-=ty launch!

Not necessarily defending the supra, but just stating what i know!

Agree with Snowboarder61 here...I think it's a fun video as a Jeep owner, but that isn't the fast Supra, it's a non-turbo.

Now, I've been on the track with plenty of Supra owners, and I'm not a really fan of the car, and I LOVE the 5.9, but a true turbo Supra would beat a stock 5.9. And Jeep in that video is no stock 5.9. Once you start modding, these open runs become pointless for comparisons. How many of you have seen that Paul's van video clip where he beats the Camaro running a 12.65 in an 89 Caravan SE with a turbo 4?

http://www.turbovan.net/van.html

But I'm done "defending" the Supra - his launch sucked, and his car is slow. And a modded 5.9 running 12s is VERY cool in it's own right!

12 seconds for a stock 5.9 does sounds a little too fast to be true.

However, if you listen carefully to the video, the announcer says "stock Jeep Grand Cherokee."

The 5.9 came only with the quadratrac TC - 4wd all the time, unless they changed the TC, of course.
