5.9 axle swap question

Well i have another problem now with this thing it sounds like the front axle is completely shot. will any d30 of a GC swap in as long as the gear ratio is the some or does it need to be from a v8? How common is a 3.73 ratio both my 4.0 and 5.9 have this ratio? Thanks for the help.

Any D30 with matching 3.73 gears will work.

All V8's came with 3.73 and some 4.0's came with 3.73....most of the 4.0's I've seen in JYs have 3.73

Might be a good time to look for a HP 30 out of a cherokee

I really don't mean this to be a jerk or sound like I know it all, MilanJeep, but the 3.55's were actually found in about 80% of 4.0L ZJs (Chrysler Sales Code DHP, DHM), and in about 60% of V8 ZJs (DHR). According to my sources, anyways. Might matter for someone hitting the JY's. But I totally agree with your recommendation on the HP30. All else being equal, the HP pumpkin and better shafts alone are worth their weight in gold.

The v8 only ever had 3.55's in very early 93 as they didn't have enough 3.73 axle sets to go around. After that you'll never find a factory 3.55 v8 zj.

Find a cherokee. Before 2000 & 2001.
The vast majority of cherokees have 3.55 gears, 3.07 are very common as well. 4.10 are pretty rare, 3.73 are very, very rare, and 4.56 are hens teeth.

I've NEVER seen a V8 ZJ with 3.55's. Also I almost always see 4.0 ZJ's with 3.73s, including my old one.

It must be a geographic thing, that's the only thing I can think of. People keep talking about how rare 3.73 HP 30's are, but there are 3 of them within a 10 minute drive of me.

A couple months ago I went to visit my friend in Logan, UT. We decided to go to Ogden and hit up their JY and look for an 8.8 with 4.10's for the rear of my Jeep. Well we found my 8.8 but just for ****s I went to go look at their Cherokees, I saw ones there with 4.10 and 3.73.

I realize 3.55 is most common, but I don't seem to have too hard of a time finding 3.73 or 4.10 here like everyone else does

If you can find them that easily, then you should be pulling them and make a few bucks.

There's not more than a handful of 4.10 axles showing up in car-part.com, and a few dozen confirmed 3.73 axles nationwide.
Compared to thousands of 3.55 axles.

The website also shows one 3.73 axle in your area and one in Utah.

Yeah I tried to use car-part to find my HP 30 with 4.10's but I couldn't find one near by either. The reason is because car-part only searches nice junkyards, it doesn't search the yards where you pay $1 and pull it yourself, which is where pretty much all ZJs and XJs end up these days.

I've tried pulling a couple HP 30's and selling them, but it's honestly not worth the cost or time. A HP 30 in the northwest is only worth $50-$150 (max) here.

If I could find a decent way to ship them, I would go pull every single 3.73 and 4.10 30 within a 100 mile radius of here and sell them to people who are having a hard time finding them

Car part is a national voluntary database. The u-pull it yards here participate.
