5.2 performance

Lookin to get some extra power from my 5.2 and saw rock-it-parts has a throttle body, tb space, and cold air intake. My question is has anyone tried any of these mods and noticed any power gains? Are there any other places i can look for some performance parts for these zjs?

Before you spend a bunch of money on parts:
1. You don't need to buy a cold air intake, just get out the dremel and cut the sides out of the air box that face away from the engine
2. Do an e-fan conversion. It gives you more control over engine temp frees up a noticeable amount of HP for a fraction of what a TB and Spacer cost
3. Do a full tune up. If you take care of any maintenance that has been ignored you will be surprised how much better the engine will run.

what he said^. and exhaust and tuner is the place to start, CAI only helps at or near WOT

make sure you have OBDII, since some of the early 96 ZJ's were still OBDI.with OBDII you have tuners and programmers available. not so with OBDI

its obdII i and hear you guys on the maintenance that is the first thing im doing. I was just curious about the tb and the intake since i couldnt find much. I have talked to Kolak already and plan on getting headers, 3in exhaust and ignition first. Maybe a reflash for the ecm later. How about the electric fan conversion who makes a nice setup?

easiest way is to do the Taurus E fan swap. search it

List O' Crap to do to a 5.2

remove the 5.2

swap it for a 5.9(less machining this way)

bore the 5.9 over and make a 408 stroker

build the 408 with nice pistons, rings, heads, valves, springs, pushrods, cam, and lifters and all the other little goodies you want

put now 400hp+/- in where 5.2 was

watch the 249 transfer case commit suicide

swap in a 242.

observe as your transmission self destructs

send trans to be rebuilt

swap in a 242.

just a theory lol, didnt know if there was a budget

lol thats a nice theory i wish i was gonna spend that much on this engine what a sleeper it would be! Thanks for the fan iinfo guys.

ok so now i want to do the taurus fan controlled with thermostatic switches weems like a great mod

in the long run, a Welcome to Delta Current Control controller will work better and cost less than the failure prone thermoswitches

Like the others said, keeping that motor tuned up will help a lot on its own. Run a good exhaust set up and as for a tuner idk what ones actually work on these motors. Anyone got any they kno make a difference? I did the e fan swap, love it. I also have a msd coil I'm going to putting on soom for a better spark so maybe look iinto that

yea im going to do the e fan swap for sure and the kolak ignition comes with an msd coil so that's coming eventually. Im still curious if anyone has a diff throttle body on there v8 or who has tunig and how much did it make a difference.

i have the Hughes engines Modified V8 throttle body. $170, when i swapped to the 1.7 rockers, it needed more air, so i got the Hughes from Hughesengines.com. made a big difference in breathing over the stock, but thats cause mine draws more air now, not sure of a stock 5.2 change but its worth a shot
