5.2/5.9 Conflicting Answers

I've been doing research for a few days now and I can't seem to get any straight answers.

I have a 97 ZJ with a 5.2 V8.

I recently bought a 5.9 shortblock (supposedly for a 98 Grand Cherokee) and reassembled it using a 5.9 Harmonic Balancer and a 5.9 HG set. The 5.2 flexplate bolted up and I used that also. I'm starting to find out that I might need a 5.9 Torque Converter for balancing?

I'm showing around 70-75 psi compression on all 8 cylinders when i know it should be around 130. The 5.9 block seemed to have beveled pistons that didnt quite come up to the deck and my old 5.2 had flat ones that came to the very top of the deck.

Does anyone know or know someone who knows what I need to make this monster work?

Joe

You can't use the 5.2 flexplate. You've got to use a 5.9 flexplate. The torque converter is fine.

Don't know about the piston. The Silvolites in my rebuilt 5.9 are flat and come to the top.

What is HG set?

I wish I knew the answer to the piston question. I've never had the heads off my stock 5.9, but I think the Silvolites are an OEM-style replacment on my other 5.9.

The deal with the flexplate:
For the externally balanced 360, Chrysler moved the balancing weights from the torque converter to the flexplate in '96. The 318 flexplate doesn't have those weights, because the 318 is internally balanced. So a 5.2 flexplate will cause a serious imbalance behind the 5.9.

Ok, 1 straight answer down. Thanks five.nein... Unfortunately that means I have to pull the engine out again...

I'm thinking the engine shop didn't use the correct pistons. I can't think of anything else cause the bad compression.

Here's the flexplate you need joemadoo, cheaper than a torque converter.

you know what...you seem very rude. You seem to not be happy with anything...you send pm's and I say where to go and who to ask...not good enough...then you start another thread saying conflicting answers....I tell you who the best people are to ask on here...still not good enough. Take the engine out and put a real 5.9 in it and not a 5.2 with 5.9 parts...simple enough...hate that answer...take it to a shop. I can't believe I applauded you for the undertaking and was excited to hear when you go her purring...but now you just seem ungrateful. Sorry if that was not your intent...but that is how looks here on my end.

How do I seem rude? Sorry I'm frustrated because I can't get my "fake" 5.9 to work. Come to think of it, I've learned tons from 5.9 ANDY and five.nein, and NOTHING FROM YOU. So since you don't have anything relevant to say, DON'T chime in.
