5.2 318 question

I have a chance to buy a 95 ZJ with a blown 318 in it for REAL cheap. I have a 318 that I pulled out of a 96 Dodge ram (everything from the PCM to the cat) and was wondering if they are the same engines or at least easy to swap?

I know 96 is when the OBD-II came into play.

Thanks James

it will fit, you have to use the OBD1 system. some sensor locations on the plenum will be different, just use the plenum off the 95.
I dont know what flywheel the dodge was using, may need to use the 95's

besides that, its a direct swap

Not sure, but I seem to remember reading somewhere the trucks put the starter on the other side.

From what ive read the starter on the ram trucks is on the drivers side. But the ram vans it is on the passenger side like the jeep. Also most smog regulations state the motor must be the same year as the truck or newer. You could possibly use the short block from the ram(being the starter is on the right side?). Then put all of the rest from the jeep on it. I could just see a problem when you go to have it smoged or for inspection and th OBD2 dosnt work.

I just went out and looked and could not tell which side the starter was on. From what I remember it was mounted to the transmission and the torque converter had the teeth on it, but I cant remember which side it was on. The oil filter location is on the lower rear passenger side of the block, so I would assume the starter was on the driver side.

In NC, 95 and older vehicles don't have smog inspections, only safety inspections.

I think your good then. I just looked at my jeep just to make sure and the oil filter sits right above the starter on the passenger side.
