4WD linkage broken

My 4WD linkage popped out of the pivot holder where the 4WD lever changes the transfer case from 4 All Wheel to 4 Low. I was trying to get the linkage back in the pivot hole but it looks as if I have to pull the carpet from the inside and take the pivot off first before I can get the linkage back in the pivot hole.

Has anyone else ever had this problem? Has anyone fixed the problem theirselves before?
