4WD to 2WD Conversion

I recently bought a 1995 Jeep GC Orvis with the 5.2L engine and a piece of junk 249 transfer case. My research has shown that the 249 TC are a common problem, frequently go bad, and are very pricey to rebuild/replace. A local junk yard has a 1993 2WD Dodge truck with a 5.2L engine. The junk yard also has a 1994 Jeep GC 2WD front axle ( Jeep did not make any 1995 GC 5.2L with 2WD). Since my Jeep GC and the Dodge truck both have the same 318cc (5.2L) engines, I want to convert my GC to 2WD. Does anyone know if the computer system will work? Has anyone done a conversion like this? Any info would be appreciated.

Why oh Why would you do something like that!!?!?!?! Instead you should just find an NP 231 or NP 242 Transfer case (usually found mated to I6's) Then you have 2wd as an option, but have 4wd when you need it.

Plus, you wouldn't get any better gas mileage converting to 2wd if that was a consideration of yours.

No one wants a 2WD GC. It'll be worth nothing! Swap in a 242 and be done with it! Many of us have done it. There's write ups on here - just use the search function - 249 to 242 swap!

Ok Phil gonna give you a hard time here...ever search for "249 to 242 swap" via the search function...you get this back:

I hate how it has short word/common word limitations...makes it difficult to search for the most common problems which is why we hear about them so often.

Use wildcards. (*) then it will work.

Heres what I got when I did that http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/searc...earchid=270698

How do you use a wildcard exactly?
