46RH compatibility - swap for ?

Hey, guys. I'm buying a 5.2L engine & 46RH tranny from a '94 ZJ. I'll be putting the V8 into my YJ Wrangler with an NV3500 manual tranny. Since I won't be using the 46RH, I'd like to know if it can be used in anything besides '93-'95 ZJs with 5.2L engine? For example, could it be used as a replacement for 42RE in 6cyl ZJs, or in Dodge trucks? I'd like to know its compatibility before I advertise it for sale.
Thanks!

Does anyone know if the 46RH tranny from a '94 ZJ is a bolt in swap for anything besides '93-'95 ZJ V8s (5.2L)?

It will not work for a 4.0L.

It will work for OBD I computer engines: 3.9L V6 and 5.2L and 5.9L V8.

Is your YJ going to be built for trails or street?

Thanks for the info, Tim. That's what I was looking for!

The YJ I'm building will primarily be set up for trail use (rock crawling). I do want it to be street-legal, though. I'll say 25% street use, 75% off-road. It definitely won't be a DD.

If you are going to be primarily on rocks, I would look to a different tranny than the NV3500 if it is not to late. The NP435 would suit you better. Especially since it won't be a DD.

The NP435 was behind the FI 5.2L/5.9L from 88-91, so you can use a stock bellhousing to mate them.

Might want to check it out

Thanks for the input, Tim. If it weren't too late, I would heed your advice and go with the NP435 and get the low-range 1st gear. I have owned the NV3500 for almost a year, though, and it's one reason I decided to go with a Dodge V8 instead of SBC. My NV3500 came out of a '99 Ram 1500 and has about 40K miles on it. It has the integrated bellhousing that will bolt up to the 5.2L V8.
In order to get a better crawl ratio, I may end up putting a 4:1 TeraLow kit into the NP231. But I'll worry about that later.
Thanks, again!

Hey, Tim. If the 46RH will bolt up to the 318/5.2L and 360/5.9L, would it also bolt up to an older Dodge 273 V8? I found a guy who wants to put my 46RH behind his 273, along with a Dana 300 xfer case. Any idea if this would work? If not, where should I check? I've done some Internet searches, but have come up empty.

I really have no clue... I'll see if I can do some research on it.

273, 318, 340 & 360 all share the same bellhousing bolt pattern.

Thanks, Tim, for your offer to assist. Please don't worry about doing research on this for me, though... unless you're curious.

Thanks, RSL, for the confirmation on the b/h bolt pattern.
