42re compatibility???????

Hello i have a 1993.5 zj 6cyl 4.0 with the 42re transmission. i recently burnt up the bands in my trans and am looking for a used one to replace. my question is what years of the 42re can i put in my jeep? i know that the 1993-1995 42re are pretty similar and i shouldn't have a problem swapping (besides flex plate lug holes maybe) but how about 1996-1998? ive read that they have different electrical connectors. now what if i purchased a wiring harness for the 1996-1998? would i be able to hook it up that way? or would it simply not register on the computer? if anyone has done this please shed some light on this because i need to get back on the road. i cant be riding my thumper to work everyday.. its too cold

I thought I heard '95 had a different tranny from all others, not sure tho.

If you found a '96 - '98 42RE, I believe you would need to install all the OBD1 style electronics. Best to just get a '93-'94 trans
