4.7l V8 Pcm (powertrain Control Module) Failure

I HAVE A 2001 JGC WITH 75K. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STARTED RUNNING ROUGH. I TOOK IT TO MY NORMAL MECHANIC AND HE THOUGHT IT WAS A BAD INTAKE GASKET. HE TORE THE INTAKE OFF, THEN REALIZED THAT CYLINDER 8 WAS NOT GETTING A FIRING PROMPT. I THINK IT IS PROBABLY THE PCM. DOES THAT INVOLVE JUST REPLACING MODULE. DO YOU THINK THAT IS THE PROB? DOES THIS HAPPEN OFTEN IN THE 4.7? I DO NOT WANT TO GO THROUGH THE NIGHTMARE OF HAVING TO MAKE SEVERAL COSTLY TRIPS TO DEALERSHIP. THANKS FOR UR SUGGESTIONS!
