4.6 Stroker Builder Do Not Buy from!

So I thought since my original 96 ZJ motor was close 300k miles it would be a good time to replace. So I found an add on eBay and it just so happens that the guy is just a few miles down the road from me. Had build one installed and got to about 2500 miles and had this horrendous clacking coming from the motor. Come to find out the cam was walking so bad that the rotor button was hitting the top of distributor cap. Uneven wear on the cam journals. Also let's not forget the aluminum shavings in the oil. Also it appears that is bore was done incorrectly and was to tight causing the pistons prematurely wear to friction and heat... I have added pics of his website and eBay auction. He is already back peddling on trying to warranty the motor so buyer beware and learn from my mistake!

I was just in that area last week (work related travel).. Seems like a really low price as many other shops want $3k(+) for a stroker build. I guess you get what you pay for.. good luck with getting that warrantied / replaced.

Yeah I took stab at it since it was local and at the time I couldn't find anything negative about his builds. Either he has just gotten lucky on what he has sent out before mine but it was a crap build

thanks for the info CNW. I live in greensboro so not far from cary and also have a 96 ZJ and I really want to swap in a stroker on mine but I only have a little over 100k miles on mine so I plan to wait till I pile on some more. If you decide to build your own and need some help let me know since I am pretty close.

Whats a ZJ? If you have to ask you can't afford it.

They aren't BBB accredited and only 1 review which isn't good.

And the majority of google reviews are bad.

If you don't receive any action or they don't honor the warranty you can always file a complaint with the NC Dept. of Justice, Attorney General.

http://www.ncdoj.com/Consumer/2-2-12...Complaint.aspx

Needless to say most businesses in the state they reside do not want to face complaints by the state DOJ/Attorney General. It may be worth mentioning filing this complaint only if you don't receive any immediate action.

Welcome to the forum, wish it was under better circumstances, and good luck!

Sucks that your new motor is wounded.

Cam walk won't make the rotor hit the cap. The extent to which the distributor shaft can move is limited by the shaft collar on the distributor. Nothing to do with the cam. You say the cam journals are worn unevenly? Cam bearings usually barely wear at all. What kind of wear are you seeing? How much aluminum and what size shavings? What indications do you have that the bore is wrong? Any pics?

A stroker for $1400.....I would not expect much at all for that price.

Looks like normal break in wear for a flat tappet cam but it's hard to tell for certain from the pics. The scuffed pistons are bad news. It's hard to get a machine shop to cover that kind of thing. Good luck. They usually have some fine details in the warranty to trip up claims. For example, your guy says you must run Lucas oil stabilizer in the first oil change and change oil after 500 miles. He's betting you don't have the receipts and he can summarily dismiss your claim.
