3.1TD fuel injection pump/ veggie svo

Hi

can anyone tell me what pump is used on the European 3.1Td Grand Cherokee (2000) - I think its a Bosch .. possibly VP37 ??

Anyone had experience of using SVO ( Straight Vegetable Oil ) in one of these - if so a what ( if any) adapations / %

I don’t know if the 3.1L TD came with the VP37, but I’m 99% sure the 2.8L CRD did. These are the same pumps the VW TDIs are running, so the pump is all right. Just check to see if it really is a VP37.

Why do you want to run SVO in your Grand any way? Why not go straight to BioDiesel. Saves a lot of fab work, as in adding two tanks, heat exchange and all of that crap. I know its easier to deal with once its installed, but SVO can cause engine problems. I run BioDiesel in my Dodge RAM, and its yet to have a problem.

Do you make your own BioDisel?

I was looking to see if how it would run with single tank ... maybe just adding a heat exchanger

Hi
Should say on the side of the pump, i Know it's a bosch pump but not sure on what system and I don't have one on site for me to go check. Premium quality diesel fuel with a minimum Cetane rating of 50 or higher is required going by the info I can find.
Regards,
Merlin

No don't use straight veg oil it will leave heavy deposits in the combustion chamber.

When you get your pump out check to see if it has rubber o-rings/gaskets. Some rubber types are biodiesel compatible but most are not. If not then it probably means that the rest of your fuel system isn't biodiesel compatible, in my experience, I would run a 20:80 mix of bio to diesel. Find out if your system is compatible, I hear that you can get conversion kits for some vehicles?
