2wd, 4wd question.

The jeep I got a couple weeks ago has 2wd 4hi n 4low. Now in 2wd the front drive shaft has some play in it aswell as the frot axles. I can turn them by hand about a tenth of a turn. Is this normal when 4wd is not engaged. The unjoints on the ds look good and there is no play in them. However the from axle ujoints need rebuilt and I cannot see a way to take them apart. Does the entire axle have to be replaced? Also when In park on flat ground you can push the vehicle back and forth about an inch or so. I'm no expert but that doesn't seem right. Help PLz lol

Sent from my iPhone using JeepForum so it probably looks goofy.

Pretty normal, that's the freeplay in the gears you are feeling.

Front u-joints probably need replaced. They also make the shaft with u-joints as CV style replacement.

You could budge mine probably an inch or so with no p-brake set. Can with many vehicles.

There is a few ways of splitting a u joint, but youtube some videos, will help ya out. I'm no pro but I know it's out there.
