249 TC damaged w/o front DS

Does anyone know if it damages the VC in a 249 TC if the truck is driven without a front drive shaft. A friend removed the front DS because he thought a u joint was bad and now his VC is bad. Did it go bad because of the DS being out, or was the VC the original problem? Thanks.

I was told by a Ford mechanic that the TC needs to be loaded as it was designed to. Otherwise the chain will have slack in it, without the front driveshft and it will go bad.

Bad U Joint idea was the clue. The VC is /was bad. Went through a whole lot of replacement parts till I replaced the VC.

For those of you that want to run w/o the front drive shaft. Beware, in park, without the front DS, it will creep and you may not find the jeep where you left it.

Cheers

Cheers
It'll only roll in earlier 249 T-cases.
