247 -> 242HD swap "Yoke question"

So I need to switch out the front output CV yoke on my 247 and put it on the 242 (has U-joint yoke obviously), do I need to worry about the same things like backlash and all that for doing this or can I just swap it over and tighten 'er down?

I was talking with my dad and he was asking me when we were going to do the swap, and brought this up. I didn't think you had to worry about backlash like what's associated with swapping out a yoke on a Diff, am I right?

Nope on the TC it just needs to be tightened down properly...I don't have the torque specs for you - I think I just bubba tightened mine down to like 125 ft-lbs

That's what I thought... Thanks Arlo. Hopefully I'll be doing the swap in the next couple of weeks. Too busy with work right now, it'll sure be nice to have 4-Hi !

Ryan is right on the money.

I'd be interested in a pic of your 242HD yoke, specifically the female splined portion that faces the case. Just wondering if it has the same un-splined section for the first ~3/8" like that of the 247 yoke.

Good luck with the swap. Grab an 8mm wratcheting wrench... it is much faster and easier to work with than a wratchet+socket due to clearance.

I'll try to get pics up when I do it. Not sure when it's going to get done though...
