247 -> 231 TC swap

Looking at doing an NP-231 swap with the JB conversions super short SYE. Trying to go cheap, as I can't seem to scrape up the $1025 for a full case from them, but I can pick up a 231 from my local bone yard for $350 and then get the SYE conversion kit from JB for $299.

Need to know though, what the input shaft length is for the WJ 247. Anybody know? The donor TC is from an XJ, so I'm not sure if it's got the right input shaft or not.

Used search and got lots of info on the 242 swap, but I want to stuff a 231 in so I can get the short SYE. Anybody done this?

afaik, you can't put a 231 in a v8 wj.

'97 zj 5.2, some stuff, some other suff, and some things that even work sometimes.

I'm hoping to bolt a 231 t-case to my 545rfe tranny once I get the motor swap along the way on the TJ.

I found some info from Burnsville Off-Road that suggests you can use a Durango adapter and the 231 will then bolt right up.

Good info. It sounds though, like they are sayinng that the adapter was needed to account for input shaft length. I called JB Conversions and they told me that the input shaft will stick out either 1 1/2" or 5/8", so if I get a 231 with the correct input shaft length then I won't have to mess with an adapter. I don't want to drop the TC out and THEN go looking for a replacement. I'd rather get the new one, get the SYE on and modify the linkage, and then just make the swap.

I have a 231 in my wj with a v8 just had to swap input shafts. Took about 45 minutes. I got the 231 off of ebay for 180 shipped. The most expensive part was having a mew read drive shaft built with a double cardon joint. Let me know and I can take some pics of my shifter arm that I had to modify for it to work properly.
