242 T-case Swap - 4w and 2w are switched!

I have a 96 grand cherokee with the 4.0L. I just got a 242 transfer case and put it in. I changed the oil but did not take it apart. My jeep has 2w, 4part time, 4full time, N, 4low. When I tried to drive it turned out the when the shifter is set to 2w it is actually in 4low. And when the shifter is in 4low it is actually in 2w. 4part time and 4full time both give me neutral(unless one of these is just front shaft but I can't tell cuz I don't have the front shaft on cuz it broke). I tried adjusting the shifter underneath by loosening that bolt and let the rod slide through when you shift and then tighten the bolt but it seemed to make no difference.

It is pointing up becuase that's the way I took it off the old one. It looks like it would hit the front drive shaft if I put it down.

The shifter lever on the TC is facing the wrong way.

Well I feel dumb for not figuring this out on my own. But I was confused cuz my old one was pointing up. But probably because the t case exploded and broke into several pieces. Turns out it worked great when I pointed the tab down. Thanks guys.

Live and learn. At least you got it figured out.

It never hurts to ask a question, no matter how stupid you may feel.
