2400 mile trip tomorrow which Jeep to take ?

Hey guys, Im going to visit my brother at bootcamp he gets a 2 day pass and we havent seen him in a few months.. My mom wants to drive to georgia to visit him we are in Va.. So my question is.. what vehicle do you think based on what im about to say we should take ?? Its 1200 miles to and 1200 miles back

The 5.9, the tranny is strong, engine i just finished working on the plenum a week ago and Im not too sure if it would hold up for 2400 miles or if it would break a leak somewhere (however its been driving fine hard WOT and such and city driving for at least 100 miles in the last week).. The rear end makes noises at 65-70mph noises i havent been able to figure out like grunting noises im not sure if its the rear axle or something else.. Its been doing this for the last 25k miles since i've owned it over the last 2 1/2 years.. Has 142k miles tires are brand new but my spare is a smaller different brand tire so i dont have a spare tire unless its ok to use that smaller brand which i doubt as itll probly fry my viscous coupler.. It would be nice to drive my gummed up engine 2400 miles tho i honestly wanna take my 5.9

The 4.0 engine is strong, axles silent, but the transmission has been acting up the last few months.. After talking to people about it i found its most likely just the solenoids, basicly itll up down and up shift when driving up to speed very quickly between like 2nd-3rd gear.. It only has the donut tire as a spare.. altho i think I can bring my 5.9's spare the rim may be an inch bigger but the tire is a 225 vs the 235's on there so i think that cancels eachother out and itll be fine driving full speed on that spare.

Both Jeeps have been driven to New Jersey a 500 miles trip multiple times and had no issues, except mine is untested with the new plenum install i did.. We arent concerned about gas mileage, the 4.0 gets like 18-20 freeway, and the 5.9 gets like 16-18.

So as you can see im concerned the 4.0's tranny will cause issues driving to or from there.. and the 5.9 im not too sure about the intake, or the rear axle and of course that spare tire issue for both Jeeps. The camaro would be nice but with 3 people itll be too cramed in the back for the 3rd person because he complains too much (loser moms bf)

Na complain meaning he wont go we already brought it up and he instantly started *****ing, saying he wont go.. and she doesnt want him in her house alone for 4 days, so he said hed get a hotel since he doesnt have his own place (loser) but he only has $100 on him lol like i said its a no win situation for the camaro... If it were me id take the camaro and leave him behind but yea..

If I were you, I'd rent an economey class car for $25-$30 a day, pass on the insurance but get unlimited mileage.

The 4 cyl will make that trip with around 30 gallons each way, fuel savings alone with make you save overall.

Then the reliability factor of a new car, plus roadside which is part of the rental.

Don't let this trip turn into a nightmare by breaking down.

your going to burn through 200 gals of fuel before it's all over and at 350 a gal. you could probably rent a small fuel efficient car and save the wear on tear on your jeep.

Sounds like you're letting this dude call the shots.Tell him he either sits in the back or he stays home.If he doesn't like it then leave without him and lock up the house tight.Tell him to go camping for a few days

If a rental isn't on your mind, I would say drive the 4.0. I was just in Columbus, GA 2 days ago and I think you will be happier on a trans that shifts a lot than a motor that dies 100 miles from any repair shops. Plus, its not worth risking the 5.9..If it sprung a leak and you didn't know it, I wouldn't wanna see a new engine bill for that!!

with the economy those vehicles get, renting a car is a much better choice for the 4 days of driving and visiting. you'll save more than the cost of the rental in gas alone.

'97 zj 5.2, some stuff, some other suff, and some things that even work sometimes.

^this

But if you take a ZJ, pull a wheel off the one staying behind so you have a full size spare.

With the 5.9 you would spend like 800 bucks in gas. Probably more with all the people and luggage.Rental is the way to go. Make ****** bag give you the 100 bucks.
