231 swap completed
My swap is finally finished and road tested. She runs like a dream and it was worth the hard work. All I had to do was swap input gears and change the old seals out and everything bolted right in. Test drove it on some pavement that was a little wet after a light shower and she was very spunky and did a few burn outs too
.I got the case from an auto salvage venue for 150$, they said it came from a 96 cherokee with 100k+ mileage. Tomorrow I am driving out there to get 35$ for the 249 I took out. Quite the savings over what you would pay for a new viscous coupler. And rear wheel drive is so true. The one problem I ran into is that the shift indicator sensor plug does not work with the cars connector. I think I might try and pull the one from the 249 and swap it into the 231, I hope that works. I couldnt help but have a big smile on my face as I drove around in my rejuvenated jeep with its v8 power, maybe its me but the engine even sounds throatier. Anyone considering doing this I would ask you "what are you waiting for?" Also make a note to buy some lock ring pliers because most write-ups forgot to mention them. Napa can get most of the seals, I had a problem getting the rear output from o'reilly's. I am super happy with the results

....um, well -- it's either just you, or you poked a hole in the exhaust while doing the swap. A t-case has no impact whatsoever on engine sound, or performance. On the outside chance that you were just kidding, ...ok. ![]()
