2004 WJ 4.0L I6... Sluggish Performance..

I picked up this jeep about 8 months ago with 88K on it... It now has about 120K on it... I am a road warrior and knew the I6 would handle some abuse!!!

It has always been a bit sluggish between 2000-2800 RPM in all gears so I have done the following since owning this Jeep:
-Plugs and Wires (coil wires?)
-K&N and airbox mod
-Throttle body cleaner
-MAF Cleaner
-Seafoam and BG 44K once each
-BG MOA to the oil a while back
-Oil Change every 4-5K with Valv. high milage
-Transmission flush

I am leanin towards a bad O2 sensor or clogged cat...

What should I check next??

Try a fuel filter change.

There are no plug wires on your model. just a coil pack for each pair of plugs directly above them.

x2. I didn't understand to change the filter and finally did it the other day after 2 years of owning it. the filter was original...i couldn't even blow through it.

also could be a clogged cat. mine is most def clogged but i'm not worrying about it right now. don't forget the i6 is a dog anyways

Yeah coil pack is what I was getting too.. hehe...

I was under the impression the fuel filter was in the tank and didn't need to be messed with... Now I know... Guess I will look into havin it changed...

Isn't the filter a major pain to deal with? I've heard you have to change the filter/pump as they're one unit, and dropping the tank, breaking the vacuum, changing it, then resealing it right is not an easy task. Most shops charge in the hundreds for the job, also. Am I missing something here?

Were talking about the inline filter. Their also one in the tank, but that one you can leave. ultimately the in line catches most of the particles, the intank is for bigger stuff.

Yes there is.

52100283AG <-- Jeep part number.

Its not a normally scheduled service (which is why most part stores don't have them) But you need to replace them. Click the above for the dirty picks and below for its location above the rear axle.

Never messed with an o2 sensor... Not sure what problems it gives, but I think I read it would throw a check engine light... The jeep idles great and runs well... Just have to punch it into lower gear to avoid the sluggish zone... I don't remember our 02 WJ being like that....

I've a ZJ. Is it the same for it then? I had no idea there was such a thing. Everyone, including shops and mechanics, all told me there was just the in-tank filter.
