2004 GC makes a whistle noise while driving

My neighbors 04 GC makes a whistle noise when he drives it. You can't hear it with the windows up, but with them down you hear it nonstop while you drive it. He took it to a shop and they told him they could fix it for $900. Any idea on what the noise could be and or how to fix it without going to the shop would be great. thanks

If the shop knows what the problem is, ask them what they're charging $900 to fix

Does it go Whoo-Whoo?!

Actually, it's most likely pads scraping against rotors.

I know what you're talking about, mine are all messed up from braking in mud and sand, so I can hear mine when driving next to buildings.

When I bought my '97, I had a whistle when driving.

Mine happened to be the antenna on the windshield from the inside mounted telephone. The salesman told me it had to be that or sometimes, the luggage rack on the top is situated in a way that makes the whistling sound.

Try moving the luggage rack bars on the top to a different position.

If not, look for something that is attached outside the vehicle

Hope this helps.

Maybe it's just a weather stripping problem? I'd spend $75, re-do the two front doors and hope it fixes the problem. If not, it'll still be quiet inside.

A vacuum leak can cause whistling. My friends Geo has a really bad vacuum leak, and whistles real bad. A small leak can cause a whistling noise.
