I live in the socialist police state of Maryland. Vehicle inspections here are ridiculous. I had to remove my spacer lift to pass inspection so here are the pictures of it at stock height with 245/75's. Now I just have to try and not destroy my Bilsteins on the way to the shop and back.

I also got some OME HD coils to put in when I take it all back apart again so I will have the 1.75" Daystar pucks for sale. They end up being 2" with the stock isolators. I just couldn't bring myself to do all this work for no reason so the OME coils were my reward.

The last one is a pick of an OME HD rear coil next to a stock rear coil.

i can't believe thats actually an issue to pass safety........

i gutted a ZJ once that came with the 245s on it..... it seemed fine on the stock suspension. didn't even rub. it'll suffice for long enough to get it safetied and then back on the road

It's a one time deal in the state of Maryland anytime you need to register a vehicle, trailer, or anything that goes on the road.
The first shop told me I needed stock tires.
The second shop said the tires were within the two size limit but since I had a lift it negated that. Apparently if you have to install a lift so the tires won't rub then it won't pass even if the tires are within the two size limit.

So it was either take the spacers out to show him it won't rub or drive 7-8 hours round trip to a shop that would just pass it hopefully.

Taking it to the shop in the morning. Should only take them 5 minutes since everything else passed inspection. Then Take it all apart again!

I wonder if they are going to charge me 60 bucks once more.

Lol in Tennessee, as long as its got one brake light, and at least 3 wheels you won't even get pulled over. Let alone have an inspection.

Same here in Bama. However, I was born Maryland. Sounds like it's becoming more like CAliberal!

This has to be the dumbest law I've ever heard of. My 97, with up-country came with 245/70/15s...and a 1 inch higher ride height. But the sticker in the door says 235/75/15s.

Are you telling me that they wouldnt have inspected my brand new ZJ when I bought it?
Or was it the 1.75 inch lift that got their panties in a wad ? How in the heck do they even know it's lifted in the first place? They measure it ?

2 inches aint much.

What is the purpose of this law? They dont want you running from the police by going off road? If that's it...it would seem that are violating the basic premise of innocent until proven guilty. If not, how is this a safety issue?

I hope that Bigfoot ( the truck) crushes the vehicle of the P**ck that came up with that stupid law. Come to Louisiana or Texas. If you dont at least have 4wd, and hopefully a little lift, we think you're ....well.....gay.

I agree with all of these lol. Can't remember ever failing the yearly inspection here. Went to the same shop I always use with an '88 GMC with damn near no exhaust, 4 bald tires, no horn and a softball sized hole in the windshield from a hail storm the night before. Only question I got asked was if my insurance co had seen the truck before they insured it lol

Maryland is a special kind of hell indeed. They tax everything too. They just came out with a "Rain Tax". It's for environmental reasons. Basically the larger driveway and roof you have that prevents water from being absorbed into the ground, the more they tax you. I am not kidding. Back from the shop and tag office. Passed this time. Only out around 400 bucks all said and done. Learned a few things from mechanic. I mentioned that I am putting some nice coils springs in and he said that a cop could still issue me a repair notice if he felt like it for having a lift. The odds are he probably won't but they still have the power to mess with your life like that. So if you are driving a lifted vehicle in Maryland and it's obviously lifted then it's always going to be a possibility that you will get pulled over.

Talking about window tint and how the police harassed some guy for his being too dark several times. I mentioned that my wife's tint is over the legal limit but she had a notice from her eye doctor that she has sensitive eyes and got it approved at the state troopers office. He said that's one way around it but now she is the only one legally allowed to drive the car because she has a permit for the window tint. If I were to get pulled over driving her car I would get a ticket.

He was telling me how screwed up and confusing the inspection laws are. He said that if a car came in with both tires pointing out in the opposite direction he can't fail it for that. But if a car with both tires pointing straight but the axle on the right was pushed back 2" then that would fail. He also said the laws are written with a bunch of double negatives in them which almost requires a law degree to interpret. Apparently most people fail the test to become certified for inspections. He said when he took it the first time he failed because he missed 3 out of 24. He knew the answers but since it's worded confusingly he screwed up.
Anyway, I am happy that is over with even though he said he would pass me with no charge the first time I went to him. Ended up doing the whole inspection again. At least I know for sure my ball joints are still good.

Now I am going to get the front end un buttoned for the OME install.
